The Thorn in Tori’s Toe follows a young girl named Tori as she plays at the park, the beach, and in the backyard. Tori does not like to keep her shoes on when she is playing.  She likes to experience “nature” on her feet and between her toes. Tori’s mother gets concerned about Tori hurting her feet and tells her that she is not going to be happy if she hurts herself.  When Tori plays in the backyard trail with her father, she steps on a wooded branch and gets a thorn embedded in her toe that really hurts her. While her father carefully removes the thorn, he tells her that this must be their little secret and reminds her that this would not make her mother happy. This causes Tori to secretly walk around in pain without telling her mother. The thorn is a metaphor for the sexual abuse from her father, and the pain that Tori is experiencing. The Thorn in Tori’s Toe will inform children that it is okay to tell someone when they are hurting.
